As promised, this week's post highlights the ways Google Keep can help you both in your professional practice and personal life. You can catch last week's post using Google Keep with Students here (especially those with Executive Function issues).
Many teachers use the Sticky Notes app found on every Apple laptop. They are visual reminders of things you need to do or remember. The only problem: if you aren't using that device, you don't have access to those notes! Google Keep provides the same function, but on every device!
Professional Practice
Google Keeps's integration with Google Docs and Slides provides some really helpful applications for teachers.
Access your Google Keep notes in Google Docs or Slides by clicking Tools> Keep notepad.
Frequently used comments:
Providing feedback is so important....but can be so time-consuming! If you are providing feedback on Google Docs or Slides, using Google Keep notes (like stickies) that appear right in your Google Docs can help you do this more efficiently.
Note: If you are grading with TurnItIn, you can create comments within TurnItIn for use!
Old School Practice with New School Tools
Long ago, you may remember getting stickers or stars on your papers...you may even have given a few yourself! Students like positive feedback, so Google Keep can help by allowing you to create DocsStickers from images. (It is easy to create them in Google Drawing!). I have used a few Keep notes highlighted in this blog post by Stephanie Filardo. The stickers are free to use, and Stephanie provides valuable directions on how and why to use DocStickers. It adds a little fun to feedback for students!
If you want to take this idea one step further, create a Bitmoji (a cartoon character representing you!) using the Bitmjoi Chrome extension. I think your students would love it! The DocStickers below are from Kasey Bell at Shake Up Learning:
Professional and Personal Productivity
Google Keep provides the following benefits for helping with efficiency and productivity, not only in your professional practice but in your personal life as well!
Add Collaborators:
You can share Keep notes just like you can share Google Docs, etc. Some great uses:
- Share task lists with your Q5 collaborators or teachers with like courses
- Share grocery/packing lists with your family
- Share comment/feedback notes with other teachers
- Share DocStickers
Set reminders for time or location!
You can set reminders on your notes for time or location! I think the location reminder is brilliant! I can't tell you how many times I have been somewhere, and after leaving remember something I needed to buy or pick up close by!
Google Keep also provides access for you on your phone!
Get Google Keep for iOS
Get Google Keep for Android - currently not available in U.S.
The Google Keep app on your phone allows you to use your phone's microphone to dictate Notes! Take photos of items you are considering purchasing, as well as all the other features Google Keep offers!
I hope this post have given you some ideas how Google Keep can help you in your personal and professional life!
